Frequently Asked Questions by Teachers

Q:  Does the JASON Project follow State & National Standards?

A:  Absolutely! The curriculum materials include a nice chart which shows how every lesson and activity relates to what academic area.   There is also an online tool to show each specific State's correlation.

Q:  Does the JASON Project have more info I can use with my administatration?

A:  Positively! Check out these one page Word Documents:
Mysteries of Earth & Mars Flyer  (250 Kb)
No Child Left Behind  (240 Kb)

Q:  Does the JASON Curriculum Improve Student Achievement?

A:  Research conducted by the Center for Children and Technology (CCT) indicates that "JASON students consistently scored above average and out performed non-JASON students."

Q:  What is the JASON Project?

A:  Started by Dr Bob Ballard after discovering the resting place of the Titanic, the JASON Project is an annual LIVE science expedition to study the eccosystem of unique environments around the world, and with NASA as a partner...even out of this world!   It is a standards based, multi-disciplinary, multi-media supplemental curriculum that enhances the LIVE expedition, so that your students can be better prepared to watch fellow students and teachers go on the LIVE expedition with the science team each year.   In the spirit of adventure and search for knowledge as Jason and his Arognauts of Greek legend, the students and teachers who go on the expeditions are called Argos!   This year, Zeeland's Woodbridge Elementary 4th grade teacher Marti Dekker is one of just four Teacher Argos!   We are very fortunate, very proud & excited to hear of her experience!

The JASON project is a GREAT way to supplement your math, science, art & english lessons with something that is REAL LIFE, REAL SCIENCE and REAL TIME!

Q:  Who else in West Michigan has done the JASON Project?

A:  These Educators & Teachers have...

Q:  Why is the curriculum $300 online?

A:  Thanks to our great Michigan Sponsers & Partners, we are able to bring the full curriculum, access to the gated online community (message boards, chats, quizes, journals, simulations, and more!), video DVD and an evening of Teacher Training on how to use the materials for the low, low price of $125!

Q:  What if I don't "study" the particular JASON expedition's destination in my normal curriculum?

A:  Many teachers have that concern.  Being a supplemental curriculum to math & science, you'll be surprised how much of the material can be used to meet your standards requirements and teach the concepts of your syllabus for the year...regardless of the expedition destination!   Performing experiments, collecting data, making hypotheses, retesting, analysis, charting & reporting are all essential skills whether its charting a Jaguarunda's path thru the rainforest of Panama, checking the growth of undersea kelp beds off the Channel Islands, measuring the salinity of Louisiana's disappearing coastal wetlands or trying to balance weight, size, shape and fuel of a rocket to get to Mars.

The enthusiasm your students will have have for Real Science, Real Time will lead to Real Learning & Real Fun, regardless of the topic!

Q:  I know we can't go to Mars for a live expedition, so where ARE we going?

A:  There are FOUR destinations as part of this expedition:

  • Big Island, Hawaii - Planetary Geologist Vicky Hamilton will analyze what Martian meteorites tell us about Mars.   Teacher Argo Marti Dekker will be in Hawaii!
  • NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, California -- Senior Mechanical Engineer Kobie Boykins explains how engineers build robotic rovers.
  • Meteor Crater, Arizona - NASA Chief Scientist Jim Garvin will share with students what we can learn from studying craters on Earth and Mars.
  • Mono Lake, California - Astrobiologist Jack Farmer explores how studying extreme places of Earth helps us understand if life could exist on Mars. EDS Student Argonaut Meera Gudavalli will be joining this expedition!

Q:  What if I home school?

A:  The JASON Project is open to all!   The LIVE expedition is FREE to all!   The supplemental curriculum, video DVD, access to the online gated community are the same low price $125 (ask about a scholarship!).   Learn more at
